How to set Hidden and Multiple Name Sharing?
Three type of sharing is used to share the data in networking environment, for example simple sharing, hidden sharing and multiple name sharing. We discuses here about hidden and multiple name sharing only.
Perform the following steps to hide the shared folders:
First locate the folder that you would like to share or make a new folder.
Now right click on that folder and click on the option "Sharing and security".
A small dialog box will appear with the title "data properties". Under the "Sharing" tab, select the check box "Share this folder on the network" under the "Network sharing and security".
Here you must apply the dollar sign ($) at the end of your folder share name.
Here you can set the permission level on this folder according to your requirement.
Click on Apply button then click on Ok to finish it.
If you want to share single folder for many users with different names and permissions, copy the same folder and paste it with different names and then assign permission for all different users according to your requirement.
Perform the following steps to create multiple name sharing:
First locate the folder that you would like to share or make a new folder.
Now right click on that folder and click on the option "Sharing and security".
A small dialog box will appear with the title "data properties". Under the "Sharing" tab, select the check box "Share this folder on the network" under the "Network sharing and security".
Here you can set the permission level on this folder according to your requirement.
Now for Multi name sharing click on "New Share button" and type the name in "Share Name". Here set the others options you want to change.
Click on apply button and click on Ok to finish it.
Method of accessing hidden folder
First click on Start button to open "Run" and type \\name or IP of destination computer \ write the folder name with $ sign that you want to access then press Ok button to open it. For hidden share access put dollar sign at the end of folder name.
