How to configure Roaming User profile in server 2003 and 2008?

 

 

There are some pre-requirement to create centralized user profile.

 

  • Operating system must be MS-Server 2003.

  • Domain Controller must be configured

  • Create new users for roaming profile

  • DNS and TCP/IP settings must be configured.

  • Computer must be connected properly (physically and logically) to other computers.

  •  

Server end Configurations to store user Roaming Profiles. 

  • To enable this feature, you will need to be logged into your computer with administrative rights. 

  • First make a folder (for example saleprofile) in domain controller and right click on saleprofile folder then click on "Sharing and Security" option.

 

 

  • Now share this folder with saleprofile name and click on Apply button.

  •  

  • Now set the sharing permission level for specific users or assign full control to everyone group then click Ok button to close this window.

 

 

 

Server end Configurations for Roaming user. 

 

 

  • Click on Start button and go to All Programs > Administrative Tools > then click on Active Directory Users and Computers.

  •  

  • Here select one user or to select more than one users with control key for set profile path.

  •   

  • Now click right on any user after select and then click on Properties option.

 

 

Here a window will appear with username Properties name, click on Profile tab and in Profile Path field (under User Profile section), type the UNC path as \\servername\saleprofile\%username% and click Ok.

 

 

Now close the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in.
